Zeno of Elea

Zeno of Elea (circa 490 BC to 430 circa) BC was a Greek philosopher of the Eleatic School. He is a follower of Parmenides who believed that multiplicity of matter that we see around us is an illusion of the elemental matter which he calls The One.

Zeno developed a system of reductio ad absurdum proofs (paradoxes) that he would use to defend the position of Parmenides.

Artistotle referred to Zeno's system of argumentation as dialetics. The exact form of Zeno's writings has been lost to history.
