-580 Pythagoras

Pythagoras of Samos (Ὁ Πυθαγόρας ὁ Σάμιος) is a Greek Thinker who lived from circa 572BC to circa 490BC. Pythagoras is attributed with discovering the mathematics of harmonics (musical notes). If you examine the tone of different lengths of strings you will find that harmonious sounds seem to come at proportional intervals.

Pythagorus is the namesake for the Pythagorean theorem that the square of the hypoteneuse equals the square of the sides of a triangle. There are rumors that Pythagoras did horrible things to the man who discovered that the hypoteneuse of the unit square was irrational.
