-428 Plato

This index style article has references to Plato (Greek: Πλάτων, circa 428 BC – circa 348 BC).

This article is currently a stub with links to other resources on Plato and the various Platonic Schools.

Plato was a student of Socrates. Since Socrates did not write down his work, Plato was able to use reconstructions of Socratic dialogues to build his philosophical view.

For interesting reading on "The Spell of Plato," I suggest Karl Poper's The Open Society and It's Enemies. Popper argues that Plato was not the champion of open enquiry as was believed in Popper's day. Popper argued that Plato was reactionary who was opposed to the Athenian democracy and that the Platonic Schools were elitists closed institutions.

Platonic Forms

The main gist of Platonic philsophy is that the Socratic Method was uncovering universal forms.
