Born in Mainz Germany, Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg (c. 1400 – February 3, 1468) is an inventor credited with the creation of movable type circa 1439. The addition of movable type to the printing press dramatically expanded the ability to print and distribute literature.
